On a rainy morning in November 2012, members of SCB-Davis met in Winters, CA to plant trees with Putah Creek Council along a newly-created floodplain of Putah Creek.
Restoration of the stream channel took place one year ago, turning what was a wide, slow-moving stretch of creek into a narrow, fast-flowing stream with a functional floodplain.
Volunteers from SCB-Davis had a good time getting wet and muddy planting cottonwoods, box elders, white alders, and California sycamores. Trees were protected from hungry
beavers with wire cages. The stream channel restoration, along with native riparian vegetation planting, will provide better habitat for native fish, birds, mammals, and other creatures.
